Having seen the images of this derailment I agree recovery is not possible and cutting it up on site is the only option, though this will be very difficult. As regards my first comment this system of recovery has been known to have been used as the power unit and bogies make up more than two thirds ...

Have read the article, but don't know how the loco is positioned in relation to the track, but I have known recovery of awkward derailed diesels by lifting the power unit out to lighten the load then lift the body off the bogies and put it on temporary bogies then recover the bogies for removal. The...

Ref. to the two 45t bogie cranes of the LNER: 107 was at Doncaster until 75t crane arrived some time in 1966 then disappeared until it arrrived at Healey Mills about Nov. 1968. Where was it between those dates? 154, the other crane, was at Gateshead till mid 1964 (was it stored?) when it went to Twe...

Sorry, a slip of the finger, should be 11/68. This makes 107 missing longer, still would like to know where it was between 66 & 11/68. Have seen the photo of brake valve on 107 and never used it though I am still unsure about seeing it. Will have a query about 154 later when I have got some info...

I drove this crane for two years (1977-1979) and was never aware of it having a steam brake. It is a long time ago, though we always moved the crane into position with the train engine and not self travel. One thing I would like to know is where was 107 between the time when Doncaster got York's 75t...

John ref.ADB996103 this crane was at Doncaster when it was derailed on 17/4/1978 at Misterton nr. Gainsborough, derailing the crane, relieving bogie, jib carrier and a packing van. I was a crane drive at Healey Mills, we were called out to rerail it. The derailment was caused by an outrigger sliding...
