To recover a derailed 5 set fix coupled rake of side tipper wagons of which two vehicles derailed, a tandem lift is planned for the weekend of May 11 and 12 just south of Wellingborough station on Midland Mainline. The rail locked site expected to have two Volker rail Heavy Duty Kirow cranes attend....

The ‘white pages’ Working manual for rail staff used to state BreakDown Cranes should be marshalled immediately behind the hauling Locomotive to and from site, although this instruction disappeared in later years, I don’t recall any instruction stating Jib direction. Minor derailment in Clapham yard, class 47 with brake force wagons, however nothing like recovery work with an audience, all within full view of the neighbouring station up platform loop

Anything to do with the Kirow not having a small enough 'lifting beam' which ironically is not being used by the Cowans Sheldon Telescopic crane either ! for which handrails have been provided to allow safe access when it is transported on the relieving bogie ?? These lifting beams are carried by so...
