It was somewhat annoying, that program, as it made out that the crane lads were heros of the day......did not take into account any of the prelimb work we had to do, or the mass of individuals involved. Hia all, I haven't been on here for a while. Regarding the West Thurrock incident, we couldn't use the two railcranes, as the wagon was full (102t), and couldn't get it emptied enough to allow for the reach with the cranes, Net Rail also wanted the main line back, as they had to re-slew the overhead...

Thats a nice bit of kit in Robs Utude clip, alas though, would be very out of gauge though. Mind, if Ainscough or one of the other big crane operators, had some cranes to meet the UK gauge, and Network Rail paid for the rail parts, then that could be a way forward for the future. This is the latest proposals from DBS, they only cover recovery on Net Rail, and if you have private sites/infrastructure, like many sites that Train operators have, then they may not respond unless you have paid into a central fund. I was the On Call Engineer attending from FL, we finally did the job with a BRUFF, a 500 tonne road crane and a support 50 tonne road crane to assist in turning the wagon over before being placed on the trailer to be roaded away.

Yep thats the old girl, could have sworn that it was bigger than 10 tons though.... Still its a nice bit of kit.

Rob, Dollands Moor's road vans are not Net Rails, they are DBs's, also Dollands Moor has a virtual Skeleton staff these days, and have had to have support from other depots, to make up crews, when they couldn't fully compliment. Alex,

Good luck with your modelling of cranes, there are some good examples in the former eastern block countries, I have seen plenty of 100 tonne cranes whilst working in Poland over the years.

Gents, Although the Kirow cranes are not part of the recovery fleet, they can be utilised for that purpose as they are similar to cranes used on other european Railway Undertakings.
