Stan,

I'm aware that the re-tubing has been mainly of your doing, and is your first involvement with that type of task. I also observed the very high standard of your boiler work on my recent visit to the NVR.

Congratulations!

A particularly clear view of the lamp can be seen at 12.30 minutes into the film. Am I correct in thinking that the lamp would have been mounted semi-flexibly, so that gravity would cause it to illuminate an area close to the hook whatever the angle of the jib? Unfortunately the derrick-mounted lamp...

NVR Crane is in "Poppy Red" which was chosen to be more fade-resistant than the previous "Post Office Red". However after about 5 years standing outside we're starting to look distinctly faded on the southern side (cranes don't get turned much!). See http://nvrcrane.systemsoft.c...

The identity of the cranes is in fact disclosed beneath the first appearance of each of them in the freshly uploaded photos (but not in the earlier, flawed, uploading) and I am indeed familiar with one of them! It's now four years since I retired from maintaining and driving MP3 (ADRR95207) at the N...

A set of 21 impressive images relating to the Marley Junction derailment of 6th September 1964 has been uploaded to the Gallery within the album "Some Accident Scenes Facing the Breakdown Gangs". Many thanks to new forum member Robin Lush for their provision. (These photos appeared on the ...

..... A holiday job on a station platform sounds like every schoolboy's dream. I expect the reality was less engaging than it sounds now. It was not at all a dream for me. I was frequently in or around the North or East station bookstalls and was given tasks that I hated, such as trying to sell mag...

It's pleasing to see a post from you, Stan. I trust that you and your business are doing well. I can't offer any guesses as to the date of the photo, except that it is most likely before the second half of 1972 as the crane was uprated to 45 tons early in that year. Peterborough East Station closed ...

Bryan, it was suggested to me yesterday evening that you probably use Google Chrome since, I was told, incompatibility is not uncommon with that particular browser. The "Latest photos..." feature is best completely ignored (but unfortunately cannot be deleted). Roger's Links is the future!

Good point, Roger.

I have no experience with other than Microsoft browsers but have established that it works as it should with IE8 through to IE11 (on XP, Vista and W7 accordingly).

That's a nuisance, Bryan, I hoped we had found the answer for you. The "Latest photos..." short-cut has never failed me in my couple of years with W7, and it worked with XP before that, so I suspect the hiccup you've experienced may be local to your own system. Hopefully you'll be happy to...
