I may take you up on that kind offer, Roger, but I really ought to be able to find the time to do it myself (I've now almost caught up with the domestic jobs that awaited my early-retirement in 2001!). Yes, the "Latest photos..." feature is (supposed to be) automatic as the photos are adde...

The "Latest photos..." malfunctioning appears to apply to touch-screen devices in general, judging by the reports from Mick and Roger on top of my own experience. Roger, thanks very much for taking the trouble to provide a link to each new photo. It hadn't occurred to me to do that but it ...

Hello Bryan, What computer system are you using? As I mentioned above, the shortcut to "Latest photos..." doesn't function with some devices, including my iPad for instance (instead it takes me to a page entitled "My Podcasts" which does nothing!). However it's fine with my deskt...

Good to see the work still progressing, Pete. Corrosion associated with the girder box was not as severe on MP3 as it is on 1561. My feeling is that the condition of the rivet heads may not be anything to worry about as, presumably, the rivet shanks are still sound and will be taking mostly shear ra...

Interesting find, Bryan. I've read on Geograph that the viaduct was buried in 1913, four years after this incident, due to instability caused by mining subsidence. The crane appears to be a Cowans Sheldon 15-tonner. I think it's likely to have been either CME 1 or CME 2 which were built in 1893 for ...

I, too, would like to know the situation. And Roy certainly deserves to know, given his offer to possibly save one of the pair as an addition to his existing collection of railway cranes. Perhaps there was good reason for this matter going quiet. An update could be posted in the Members Only section...

A neat bit of humour, Rob... but I must admit that, like Bryan, I missed it at the time.

The BDCA website is strictly non-advertising but there will come along occasionally an item or service that is on-topic and needs to be mentioned. One such is the recently published book 'Taking the Weight' by BDCA member Bob Willis. The book is subtitled "Life from Apprentice to Tool Van Super...
