Hi, I was in Johannesburg last week, and visited the huge works of Transnet (formally Spoornet)in Koderspoort, on my way in I saw a very nice Cowans steam crane, I would say about a 45 tonner, but due to restrictions, I couldn't get a picture of it. Poland has some excellent cranes, ive got some pics somewhere, which Ill post up.

The loco concerned was 70009, which we had to swap the bogies on due to a Traction motor fault, It was quicker to do this on the docks rather than skate it to a depot.

pinch the boiler out of the steam railmotor.....might make the crane out of guage though...

Ask me nicely and I'll reletter it again,

Has anyone got a pick of what the LMSR sign wrote on their cranes?

Collin, indeed I do know some of those names: Geoff Brookes, was a mechancial forman at Saltley up to about 1984, then transferred to Tys as a WS "C" forman, always smoked a pipe. Peter Howells, was the Area maintenance Engineer at TYS, he did my interview for being an apprentice. Stan Kid...
