Today I had a conversation with somebody I used to work with who told me of different thinking for manning B&R, using a dedicated crew financed by the different TOC's based at Wigan. Does anybody have any information about this?

My last post was all from memory and having looked through my photographs I now believe that 96711 must have come from Motherwell to Thornaby about two or three years after my post suggested.

Chris, I have a little information regarding 96711. When Eastfield Depot closed in 1992 the crane and tool vans were moved to Thornaby and following staff training it was used at Thornaby. It was used a small number of times but proved to be very unreliable and in so many areas of the crane, that mu...

I saw a KRUPP ARDELT BDC whilst working at Apeldoorn Holland in 2005, it was at a workshop used by ACTS Railways who are now HUSA Railways. ACTS were also responsible for a railway museum at Apeldoorn too and I believe that the crane was on the refurbishment waiting list.

Bryan/Chris,
Thanks for your information 1948 - 1951 sounds right from Chris's post and probably the earlier date would be closer to the date as the Seahouses branch was closed in 1951 so the map would have been out of date in 1951. I have uploaded a better quality image of the map now.

I have a similar map but it is not in the form of a book, I agree that Bryan's seems to come from a book of some sort, the one I have is more of a cloth wall poster which covers an area from Durham to the Scottish border. Would be nice to have a rough idea of it's age. I attach it.

Rob,
Yes it was the Tyneside Bruff our road vehicles from what I remember were only used for transporting the crew too and from the job.

On the 27th June 1994 the Thornaby crane was called to Morpeth, I attach an image of it. The train was empty postal stock being hauled by 47783. The locomotive and many of the postal vans had overturned, the track was severely damaged and some of the overhead wire structures lay horizontal. The post...
