Roger,

I am told that as the derailment was a non passenger train, on a Goods Loop and no injuries were sustained, that the RAIB won't be investigating and will accept a copy of the internal report.

Following the earlier derailment of an Ivatt tank at Quorn, on the Great Central railway, I understand the 45 ton'er is being used as a breakdown crane. The job is tonight under floodlights.

So when there isn't a 'Breakdown on' what will the teams be doing? Any idea how much notice to steam they'd need, ranging from a simple jacking job to a full scale one or more crane recovery?

I've been working on an S&C renewal at Guildford today, using a 25 ton 'mini' Kirow from Volker Rail. Chatting to the guys, it seems Kirow have orders for 200 ton and enquiries into 250 and 300 ton versions. When I asked what they intended to lift with a 300 ton crane, they replied "Bridges...

David. As I understand it, the loco was running tender first towards Wansford when it derailed at the Wansford end of the loop. The wheelset off the road was the 'far end' and not easily reachable by the crane?
