I can't answer your question, I'm afraid, but I find it extraordinary that it has taken longer to reopen the affected line after this derailment than it did to reopen all lines through Harrow & Wealdstone station in October 1952.

A series of great videos, thanks for posting. The NYMR has invested a lot in its bridges over the last few years!

I have to say that the way the chains are being used in the video in the first link looks very dodgy to me, sharp edges and some very undesirable angles. Obviously did the job though.

I watched the first episode of the new programme"Train Truckers" that was broadcast on the"Yesterday" Freeview channel and I notice that in the opening sequence there's a very short shot of this crane being delivered by Allely's, so I think that its move will feature in a subsequ...

At least the crane looks in excellent condition, and even if the ropes have been cut it may be that they were due for replacement anyway. A set of ropes is not prohibitively expensive. It would be a daft to cut a good set on a serviceable crane without good reason. There are some interesting goodies...

It seems that some seven years after the crane moved to Crewe it is once again facing uncertainty. The latest Tractionads lists it for sale.

Hopefully scrapping is not being considered this time. Anyone know more?

A note on the OTP website reports that this crane may now have been moved to the new facility of Locomotive Storage Limited in the old Hornby site in Margate.

Anyone know if this is the case, and if so whether the ropes were cut as speculated previously?

As far as I am aware all four of NR's remaining breakdown cranes have been kept at Springs Branch TMD for the last few years.
