Very pleased to report successful steam test for MP3 this afternoon. Delighted also to have this witnessed by David Withers, of this parish, and Barry Redfearn, formerly BD Supervisor at Leeds Holbeck who worked with the crane between 1969-78. Updates and more details soon on the website http://nvrc...

Well done Pete. Can you explain the rationale for testing at 57.8t - I understood the crane was rated at 45. Are there any guidelines for this sort of testing?
Thanks,

NVR Crane is in "Poppy Red" which was chosen to be more fade-resistant than the previous "Post Office Red". However after about 5 years standing outside we're starting to look distinctly faded on the southern side (cranes don't get turned much!). See http://nvrcrane.systemsoft.co...

I've created a new website (http://nvrcrane.systemsoft.co.uk) for this crane, which is resident at the Nene Valley Railway. It's deliberately a bit layman-focussed but I hope there may be some stuff of interest to BDCA members. The site includes a blog which will be updated from time to time. I'll p...

Hello David. It's been a long time - I'll email you with my news. There's not much in the picture to offer guidance on dates. The floodlights at the football ground were erected in 1960 and, to me, the railway dress looks very 'late steam era'. Tatlow (P322) has the crane at Immingham between 1948 a...

At http://www.peterboroughimages.co.uk/blog/category/citycentre/railways/ there's a series of railway-related photos. The eighth one shows C-S 36 ton crane number 103 (built 1948). Looks like it's unpropped and re-railing a flat wagon. The front bogie and runner have been detached and parked on an a...

Definitely Cramlington 1926. A1 2565 Merry Hampton. See also https://www.flickr.com/photos/36891793@N08/8643654650/. I presume the A5 was one of the breakdown train locos.

Interesting photos Bryan, a very nicely balanced boiler. BDCs always look better when they're doing something.
