Apparently the Bachmann 2018 price list is quoting the RRP for the crane as £249.99 The Bachmann crane is also discussed in detail, and shown in closeup, in this YouTude video. Well worth a look, scroll to approx 10 mins if you're not interested in the J72. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8NiR7C2NyQ

I run out of superlatives with this model! As can be seen the tooling allows for the correct GW, SR and LNER pattern details (note the jib runners, RB details, and inside/outside valve chest configurations). That looks like a working radius indicator too! The longer you look, the more detail you see...

Those really do look very impressive indeed, I can't wait to see the first models!

Outstanding, and thank you for posting the links here!

Most certainly in breakdown cranes! The boilers the GWR built c. 1917 for use in Nos 1, 2, and 3 were all dry-head VFT (vertical firetube) boilers, and one has survived, albeit in poor condition, with No 2. Were it not for the unexpected availability of the superior, and better condition, Cochran Ho...

There is an excellent 2-part article by Allan C Baker in the November 2016 (Vol 26 No 2) and December 2016 (Vol 26 No 2) issues of British Railways Illustrated magazine, which is generously illustrated and well worth reading. The Dec. issue may still be in the shops, but there is an excellent back n...

Hi Philip, Do you have any particular crane in mind (there are so many to choose from)? The BDCA has quite a number of original and copy drawings in its collection, and it is possible for me to supply copies of some of these at cost. However, there is no type of crane for which we have a complete se...

Hmm, a tricky one given the paucity of information! There seem to be no reported accidents that fit, so possibly it was a non-passenger accident which wasn't reported on by HMRI. The nearer crane is clearly a CS RB crane, either one of the first pair of LNER 35/36 ton cranes of 1936/6, (941591 or 90...

I came across a clip on YouTube yesterday of a magnificent example of British engineering .... being lifted by the East Lancs Railway's Cowans Sheldon 75-tonner!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wUBsI9L1JY

It is a clip I don't remember seeing before and thought it deserved mentioning here.
