I've spent two to four days a week for the past two years involved with a general overhaul of the full-size MP3. Alex and his dad Alan have made numerous visits to measure and photograph the crane, in such detail that you'd think they were secretly building a replica full-size version.

Their routine has been to spend some time on the measurements etc and then help with the overhaul, and what good workers they've been. And should you want a fully dimensioned CAD drawing of MP3's axlebox keeps or some other obscure part, Alex can provide!

That model is going to be tops!

Hello Alex, I'm just admiring your lovely work so far, and beginning to realise just what I'm getting myself into in scratch building a 76 tonne Cowans Sheldon in 7mm......

I'm not a mechanical engineer - I just have an interest in railway modelling the 1970's, but have always had a soft spot for the breakdown consists, and saw the big boys at Crewe, Doncaster and Swindon as well as passing through Stafford station on the odd rare occasion.

At this stage, I'm researching the available drawings, but see you're well advanced and, I presume, have had involvement with the cranes in the past?

Would love to share some ideas with you when you get a moment, and will be watching your progress with interest.

Regards,

Ian.

Im jealous,

I purchased a 76tonne Cowans crane kit in O gauge, I didn't have time to build it, so dispatched it off to a builder, who was on one of the web groups, who seemed genuine. Alas, he ran into difficulties finance wise, and the next thing I knew he had sold off his customers' kits!

He was arrested and convicted, but that didn't get my kit back......so do I now buy another one, or build from scratch.....I'm tempted to do one in G scale to match with my G scale 66s.

Keep up the great build, as your showing inspiring me into action....

especially as I've now built
1, an N gauge complete breakdown train and crane with a commando type road recovery van.
2, a OO scale, BRUFF, and partially through a Ford based crew/workshop rerailing van, and just starting on the MFD gear to pose with a derailed 08!

Cheers

Simon
