Hi Guys,

I have just subscribed to the BDCA in the hope that someone can help.

I am presently scratch building a 45ton R&R steam crane ( Laira breakdown crane 1970's)

I believe this crane still exists. Am i correct that it is the one at the Flour Mill.?

Also does anyone have any pics of this crane?.

Rob

Laira had ADRR 95213 (adw19) of 1940 vintage but also ADRR 95216 (adw151/ds1580) 1945 vintage on its books over the years - ADRR 95216 later being sold to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Rlwy during November 1983 but now on the Mid Hants Rlwy.
95213 is at the flour mill

Thankyou for confirming that Rob, much appreciated.

I have just been looking around the website and seen the fantastic model of a 45t R&R in the gallery.

Is there any more info or help on how this was built ?.

Hello Rob, and welcome to the forum.

I doubt if any members of the BDCA or its forum will have knowledge about the construction of Bill Lee's model of ADRR95212. I will try to find Bill's email address for you in case you'd like to contact him directly. When (and if) I find it, I'll email it to you.

Pictures of 95213 don't seem to abound. I have only one in my files, and that I think was from the internet and hence subject to copyright. I'll forward a copy to you by email for your private study, though I doubt if it will be of much use to your modelling as little detail can be seen.

Volume 2 of Peter Tatlow's book Railway Breakdown Cranes should be of considerable assistance to you as it covers in depth the design and operation of R&R's (and CS's) wartime 45-tonners and includes General Arrangement drawings of them from his own hand. The book will be launched later this month, so not long to wait.

What you've shown us of your model looks good; I look forward to more pictures as it progresses.

I had an n gauge one made for me, and had it done it red.
But having asked a question on RMWeb about this crane I was told it should actually be black and yellow for the time frame I'm looking at, still need to build the match waggons as the one supplied is just WRONG; it belongs with its 36 tonner little brother.

cheers
