Having got hold of a copy of Railway Breakdowns volume 1 I thought I'd try to model a standard Cowan Sheldon 15 ton crane page 59 in Blender for Trainz.

Modelling in the sim is a bit different to physical modelling. Making a copy is easy and so is repainting so a generic model that can be painted in different livery makes sense. Chains are expensive in computer time to render them so I suspect I'll simplify them to cables. I'll have to think about the gear wheels as well.

Are there any still in existence that I might be able to obtain a photograph of? I'm particularly interested in the rivets on the jib. These can either be physical or photograph with a "normal" map so they look real but don't consume as much processing power.

Thanks John

Unfortunately for us all, there are no longer any CS 15-ton cranes in the UK.

There is a full list of extant UK breakdown cranes at http://www.bdca.org.uk/ukcranes.html
