Having a lifelong interest in "cranes" it was inevitable I would join an organisation like the BDCA and did so as soon as I became aware of it as I feel breakdown cranes are a massively under preserved item. I don't know what got me into cranes but since a young age I have just had a "thing" for them. If I walk past a building site with a mobile or crawler crane I have to stop and watch for a minute or 2, the main interest though is rail cranes and particularly the machines of Cowans Sheldon and Ransomes and Rapier. I am currently modifying a hornby model for a diorama and layouts as I like to have one as a visual view point and it's something slightly different from the norm on a layout. I have also been actively involved in railway preservation for about 13 years and look forward to being involved with the BDCA. |
