Hi, I come from a family of British railway enthusiasts, photographers and engineers and have around 1000 B&W railway photos of the 50’s of my late fathers. We are currently cataloging these along with some colour slides from the 60’s. So the reason for joining the group is I’ve come across photos of railway cranes around the UK and in particular, a few on the old Furness line taken while the track was being dismantled in 1963 showing number 1431/5 on the jib and on the side of the cabin. I cannot seem to find this number anywhere on the web as yet so hoping someone may be able to help.

Many thanks
Russ

Hi Russ

On Track Plant has a listing for the crane but no photos, search there site under 81031 or 96031 and you will see the listing, I feel sure they would like some photos.

Welcome to the BDCA site

Thanks for all the info Chris and Mick,
The photos I have are way too big file size so with reduce to the 2mb max size and post in a couple of days. One of my fathers photos just captured the serial number in the top corner as it was really difficult make out on the other two photos. I have obtained a copy of the cranes book volume one when researching the Cowan’s Sheldon at Hilton steam heritage in Natal South Africa and am in the process of modifying an old Hornby Dublo to suit, Dads old photos though had sparked interest on the Furness railway group, so the above info is extremely helpful, thank you both.
Will update with photos next week.

All the best
Russ
