I'm currently building the c1950 Colchester breakdown train in 4mm scale.
From information supplied and discussions with John Watling, the train consisted of:
*961515 Tool Van ex LD&ECR (GCR} 51842 6-wheel 34’ brake third, built Ashbury 1896, converted 10/1945, withdrawn 8/11/1958. *961520 GER 6-wheel Mess and Packing Van ex GE 945 brake third 62332, Diagram 533, converted 3/1947, no withdrawal date. * 961604 Sheldon Mk2 swan neck 15ton crane to Colchester 11/1947. It left Colchester during c1955, but still at Stratford four or five years later. There are photos of the crane at Stratford dated 20 December 1959. * 961658 GER ex double bolster as Crane Runner. * 961657 a GER ex Diagram 17 high sided wagon, cut down as a Guard Truck.
In respect of the Guard Truck, has anyone thoughts on the letter on the right-hand side of the vehicle?
I'm guessing "Guard Truck", but uncertain of the lettering underneath, "Breakdown M???? (Match???) Photo from Brian Stevens Colchester booklet.
Any help much appreciated.
