Volume 2 of Peter Tatlow's book Railway Breakdown Cranes has been announced on the Noodle Books website (http://www.noodlebooks.co.uk/products/category/NewBooks).

Formal launch of Vol 2 will take place at the Southampton Model Railway Exhibition on 26th/27th January, and it will be more generally available from the 28th.

In case it helps potential purchasers, I've uploaded an image of the book cover in our Gallery (http://www.bdca.org.uk/gallery/index.ph ... Book-Cover).

Further to the above, you may like to know how Vol 2 compares with Vol 1 in the way of the number of pages etc. Here's my understanding.....

Vol 2 has far more colour content, not being confined to the front and rear of the book as it was for Vol 1, and it also has about 40 pages more. It contains about 296 pages, with roughly 250 colour and b&w illustrations and 50 drawings.

I for one can't wait to get a copy, especially as Peter included some of my photos, and for also letting me preview the draft copy.
It is a great work if the draft is anything to go by.
Congratulations Peter.

I have bought many books and other goods via Amazon, however I now try to buy elsewhere as their discounts are assisted by tax-avoidance schemes which most other retailers are unable to enjoy.

If it can be afforded, may I suggest that the book is bought direct from Noodle Books (£38, with free delivery in the UK) as our specialist publishers need all the support we can give them.

An update for those who have placed, or are about to place, an order for Volume 2:

I understand that release of Vol 2 has been deferred by a few days from the dates I gave above.

Whilst I do appreciate David's comments, Vol 2 is available from Smiths Online for £24.32 free postage.

That does make it a difficult choice for those who need to watch their expenditures.

My view is that the publisher and author will benefit a little from a discounted purchase whereas they gain nothing at all from 'no purchase'. Also, though WHS is not renowned for fair dealings with the specialist publishers, at least they (I assume) meet their UK tax obligations!
