We have lost several breakdown cranes in recent times largely due to the theft of metal items, and it is probable that most or all of that stolen metal was turned into instant cash at scrap merchants. We will each also have heard of other instances of great distress and inconvenience being brought about by metal thieves. The thefts directly or indirectly impact on every one of us. There is currently an e-petition being raised at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk:80/petitions/406. The petitioner is calling for a change in the law to ensure some traceability of payments made for scrap metal. It will help the cause if each of us signs the petition and draws it to the attention of our friends, relatives and other contacts. |
