Thanks for that, Rob.

It so happens that non-member Denise Hart reported to me her sighting of ADRC96710 at Whitby Town station on Wednesday 16th November. Denise asked where the crane is based, and I had an inkling that this is Bescot, but is it now based at Knottingley or was it there only temporarily?

Reason was due to some Gresley coaching stock overunning the buffers at the North end of Grosmont in the sidings. The lead vehicle demolished the stops and came to rest leaning towards the Esk Valley line. The use of the NYMR Grosmont crane was offered but turned down due to not being mainline registered. Lift had to be from the Esk Valley line alongside.
RAIB informed, now we have to wait and see what develops.

Bryan,

Thanks for the info and update; do you know if anyone took any photos?

I notice that the incident has been widely reported and - apparently - greatly exaggerated on various (inferior) internet forums!

It is a shame that NR and "the rules" are so inflexible that it is not possible to use a local steam crane in preference to bringing one halfway across the country. You would have thought that with a short possession of the line, the NYMR crane could have been used and the job done in a fraction of the time, but I imagine that there would have then been all sorts of horrendous insurance and liability issues.

What a strange world we have created!

Roger

ADRC 96715 being readied at Bescot in order to re rail a class 66 at Exeter, between Exeter Central and St Davids (catch points), not sure if 'jib up' required (bit of an incline!) or just using mfd equipment.
66 111 has the earth fault.
