I see that the book is being discounted by both Amazon and Waterstones to £26.96 including delivery... but WH Smith are advertising it at just £19.16 delivered. That's 'peanuts' for such a fundamental work on a fairly specialist subject!

A quick reminder that the book is to be launched at the Southampton Model Railway Exhibition this coming weekend, 28th/29th January.

Peter will be in attendance all day Saturday and the afternoon of Sunday. He'll be on the Kevin Robertson stand for book signing most of that time but will of course occasionally wander off the look at the rest of the show.

Some info on the exhibition may be found at http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/51 ... Exhibition

Not been able to find it on that link.
Any idea where I might find it on the WHS site?

A search in "Books" for "breakdown" brings it up.

On 7th January, the WHS website said that ordered copies would be dispatched on 12th January. It now says "5-7 days" even though the book won't be launched until the 28th Jan. Further, they have the so-called RRP wrong. Such careless actions do nothing to improve their image.

Got my copy delivered today from WH Smith and think it's well worth the £19.16 I paid. A lot of work must have gone into this book well done Peter.

Definitely worth every penny.
Thank you for all your work that you must have put in Peter.
Look forward to volume 2 now.

My copy has arrived from WH Smith and what an excellent piece of work it is. My thanks to Peter for all his hard work. That's me in trouble with the wife over the next week or two as I "ignore" her in order to read my new purchase.

Gentlemen,

May I make a general comment on Peter's book, one not based on an informed knowledge of breakdown crane history or operation, but one based on a lifetime of research into the development of crane design in more general contexts.

As one struggling to transform often ragged and faded engineering drawings into clear and attractive images for a current commission (Giant cantilever cranes), I am very impressed by the superb standard of the drawings and photographs throughout Peter's book, a standard to which those of us less gifted in that context, in future will have to aspire.

The format is a very pleasing one, the graphics are superb, and I have no doubt that the content is such that it may be considered a standard work on the subject, as was my old friend John Brownlie's book many years earlier.

May I just add that I look forward with great anticipation to the second volume of Peter's work.

Best wishes to all

Brian
