Another in the series of photos to test out the spotters amongst us.

Probably it will turn out as an easy spot due to date and location being given.

I see we didn't get an answer on this one though.

Bryan, I have to admire the sharpness of your eyes in spotting (part of) a crane in the photo!

I spent about 15 minutes investigating but couldn't identify it beyond feeble guesswork.

I will second what David has said. It took me a while even to spot the crane!

I'll see if I can work it out next week.

It may help if you take a look at this:

St Rollox open day 27 June 1981.

Cowans Sheldon wartime 45-ton crane, ex-LNER 971588 later BR(Sc) RS1058/45 of 1939/40, at the time allocated to Eastfield. Coverted to diesel-hydraulic power seven years later, ulitmately scrapped at Ashford by Coopers Metals in 1993.

See photos Tatlow Vol 2 pages 329 and 529.

Here's another one.

Any ideas as to what where and when please?

See if you can spot it first though.

Bryan, that's a challenge indeed!

I have a few ideas but need to see the picture on a full-size monitor not the mobile device I am using at present. I don't think that it's steam powered though, possibly a large hand crane.

Roger.

The photo is one from one of a Neil Dimmer collection.
He is looking for details mainly of the locos and locations but I thought our interest may be elsewhere.

With the style of Loco could it be LNWR? and if that is the case, could it be Crewe?
Or is it GWR and Swindon?

GWR 1331; but at which works?
Swindon, Oswestry, Caerphilly or even Stafford Road.
And when? The loco was overhauled when it was transferred from Departmental use in 1926-7.
Could this be then?

And...........

There are two cranes to be seen - one hand crane to the left; and to the right a GWR standard steam 6 ton.
