Thanks for your comments. The photos are a bit unclear but the whole area was needle-gunned before they were taken. I won't be cutting corners but do need to get the crane operational very soon. The lifting inspector has had a look and is getting back to me after consulting his company. I am hoping to be able to build up some areas with weld and possibly leave the rest after carrying out some rust prevention and painting. There are other areas on the chassis that are at least as bad but I haven't got to them yet. They are not as structural so I am not as concerned about them. |

Steve Jordan wrote: As a plater welder I would say needle gunning is imperative, aggression definitely required. If there is corrosion there it needs to be removed before any ultrasonics are performed. Looks like you're doing a great job, don't be tempted to cut corners. It really is a shame you're not nearer to me in Hull, I'd probably be tempted to get involved!! If you are interested at all. We would welcome your assistance at Newbridge on the NYMR. Check out the stock we have, from Cranes to Tampers, Regulators to wagons. http://www.yorkareagroup.co.uk/ |

Pete, It is really encouraging to see such good progress and you are to be congratulated! I only wish I was making even a fraction of this with mine! I am looking forward to seeing 1561 working soon. Roger |

Steamed today for the Full Load Test. Passed with no problems other than the terrible weather. 57.8t on the hook for the proof load test. Thanks to Poole Boat Transport for providing the weights and the tray.
