Following derailment (at trap points) of a DBS loco and the leading wagon on an Immingham to Scunthorpe service this morning I understand that cranes from Knottingly and Wigan may be attending.

If the state of the track ahead of the loco is anything to go by.
I wonder what it was like under the loco and the train.

I seem to remember working on the relay of that stretch back in the 90s

For the record a 1000t capacity Leibherr was hired from Ainscough; photos have appeared ( eg Railway Herald ) and doubtless are available on subscription only websites. Pictures of at least one 75t rail crane at the site also also appeared.

There must be some old crane men turning in their proverbials at the thought that it was easier to set that road crane up than provide some stability for two rail cranes ( Please dont stamp on me too hard for merely thinking in such a manner! - I guess I really do know of some of the realities. )

The incident appears to have prompted otpnet devotees to submit some recent sightings.Interestingly Wigan and Warrington are noted as such recent locations. Not it may be noted Millerhill, nor Didcot, which were mooted as Network Raisl proposed bases
