Any ideas as to where and when 62048 had this incident?
Visit to works after collision in 1963 is on BR Database..
I suspect a York area crane involved.

Hmm, a tricky one given the paucity of information!

There seem to be no reported accidents that fit, so possibly it was a non-passenger accident which wasn't reported on by HMRI.

The nearer crane is clearly a CS RB crane, either one of the first pair of LNER 35/36 ton cranes of 1936/6, (941591 or 901630 (but not 941602)), or a wartime 45-tonner (971588, 941599, 901719, or 961606 (not 951515 or 941600 which went overseas nover to return in '42)).

So the crane can be narrowed down to one of six, but without seeing more it is (I think) impossible to which with any certainty. The toolbox visible on the crab may help, but none of the photos of the six cranes above which I have available at present show such a toolbox. It is also apparent that the jib end of the carriage is nearest the camera, which suggests that the location may be one which could not be approached in the optimal direction.

Also, none of these cranes was a York crane around 1962/3 !

There is clearly a lattice-jib crane beyond, but I dount that there is enough visible to identify it.

Do you have any more information which might narrow down the search?

Date now established as being in 1957 - 58
The 63 date was what I found on BR Database.
That is the only added detail I know.
I think being a York crane will be highly probable as the photo comes from the collection of a man who used to be on a York crane.
