96713 and a Balfour Beatty Kirow 1200 are at site.
Not able to read the running number of the Kirow.
The CS has been use.

Has the Kirow actually done any work?

The hire in ( assumedly by Networkrail ) of this Kirow crane is a novelty as the only other uses of a Kirow for recovery work were in pre-existing engineering possessions i.e. Clapham Junction when another Kirow toppled, and Gresty Lane when a tamper derailed.

Somebody has a sense of humour - 'opentraintimes' map of the location ( which is an open access link off networkrail ) shows the section occupied by the derailed wagons as WAGS.

The Kirow is 81611 and it has done recovery work.

Doubtless it will also do some relaying work.

Regarding ....... Health and Safety at Work – Work at Height Regulations.
The support vehicles for the 2016 delivered Kirow 1200 for Network Rail were specified with guard rails .... the NR CS 75 ton telescopics match wagons, judging by the one of 96713 in its present appearance, may all get them sooner rather than later.

As may the other big Kirows support vehicles?

96713 departed site ca.1400 on the 23/03/2017.

Hi All

A link of interest: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... ine/page-2
Just scroll down the pages for some photos of both cranes and the wagons.

Are those lifting points on the wagons the correct ones or just holes cut to suit?
For recovery purposes.

This question has been asked elsewhere!
From photographs the cutouts appear to have been flame cut on site.
I trust that the calculations had been done previously or were validated 'on the spot'.

This reference shows 96713 at Basingstoke on its return journey and indicates the guard rails added to both match wagons.

Anything to do with the Kirow not having a small enough 'lifting beam' which ironically is not being used by the Cowans Sheldon Telescopic crane either ! for which handrails have been provided to allow safe access when it is transported on the relieving bogie ?? These lifting beams are carried by some of the other larger Kirow cranes on support wagons.

The Kirow has a beam more suited to switch and crossing delivery as not a 'recovery' crane as such
