Post subject:  Great Western Society's 50 Ton Steam Crane

Work started yesterday on preparing the GWS's 50 T Crane for its insurance inspection and test. The first thing to come off easily was the boiler pressure gauge, but everything else we touched needed more persuasion, particularly the wash-out plugs, which have been at the mercy of the elements. I'll do my best to keep you posted on the progress of the project.

pinch the boiler out of the steam railmotor.....might make the crane out of guage though...

Ask me nicely and I'll reletter it again,

Has anyone got a pick of what the LMSR sign wrote on their cranes?

Can any of you Didcot chaps put me in touch with someone on the railmotor project? I have tried making contact via their website but no-one replied.

I need to find or commission a pair of standard GWR backhead clacks for the GWR no. 2 crane to replace a pair stolen off my boiler whilst it was at Tyseley, and since they are identical to those used on the railmotor I would like to know who made those, since presumably someone has the patterns and drawings.

Please feel free to pm me if you can help.

If anyone knows where I can get a pair of clacks please let me know.

Peter jennings should be able to help, but if not write to the GWS, c.o Dennis Howells, hopefully they will pass the letter on to him, and hopefully he'll get back to you.
