Post subject:  Hixon, January 1968

As mentioned elsewhere on this site, in January 1968 Derby’s 75-ton Cowans Sheldon crane RS1092/75 fell over whilst working at the site of the awful Hixon Level Crossing Disaster.

There is a Pathe newsclip of the aftermath of the Hixon accident which can be viewed online at http://www.britishpathe.com/video/train-crash-1 and approximately 20 seconds into the clip there is a brief but good shot of the toppled crane.

There is a short BBC documentary produced to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hixon accident which includes some excellent footage of the overturned crane.
