A rather nice photo from Simon Grego of a Class 70 loco being tandem lifted, albeit by road-mobile cranes, has been added to the History section of the website at http://www.bdca.org.uk/demise.html Simon remarked: "I would have loved to have done the job using two 76 tonne fixed jib Cowans!". If only..... |

Is that the loco that was dropped whilst being unloaded from the ship? |

I'm fairly sure it's not the dropped one - it isn't bent! |

The loco that dropped due to lifting sling failure did so in early January. The picture in question was taken several weeks later, of a different loco of course. |

Reason I asked was that the dropped loco remained on the dock side on an internal use trailer for a few weeks before the ship returned to collect it and return to the states. |

The loco concerned was 70009, which we had to swap the bogies on due to a Traction motor fault, It was quicker to do this on the docks rather than skate it to a depot. Regards Smon |

As I said in my opening post, a rather nice photo... However it didn't show at its best when viewed on the website, so I've given it a bit of a tweak and it's now much better! If you'd like to take another look, you'll find it near the bottom of the page at http://bdca.org.uk/demise.html. What am I doing, promoting a photo of non-railway cranes? Hope I can keep my job!
