Hi Ken,

It will be interesting to see how you get on in your quest! Unfortunately all four of the cranes are still in service, none in preservation, and I am not sure how you would go about getting access to one. Hopefully there will someone on this forum who can give you some advice, or at least tell you who to contact.

Preservation sites are generally of course much more accomodating to requests of this type, but sadly none of the telejib cranes has entered preservation. Hopefully in due course at least one will, it would be sad indeed if all were scrapped.

Hi Guys
Update:- Looks like it coming up to 12 years since my last post back in June 2013 and much has happened since then.
I did manage to get hold of a set of Works Drawings for the CS 75t Crane and was able to visit Bescot sheds to take many photos of the full size version.
Over the following 4/5 years, I have constructed a 10mm scale (Gauge 1) model of ADRC96715.
It is a prizewinning, fully working, all metal model, radio controlled in 4 axis and finished in Network Rail Yellow.
A support coach, together with an open wagon and closed van (modified commercial items) all finished in Network Rail Yellow, have since been added to form a complete breakdown train
The limitations of this website appear to preclude adding hi-res photos, but there several photos/videos to be seen on the Birmingham Society of Model Engineers website, http://www.birminghamsme.co.uk
There was also article published in the Model Engineer magazine Issue 4577 dated 5Jan -19Jan 2018 which describes the build in greater detail.
I am currently having thoughts about possibly moving on the group and would welcome serious offers in the coming months.

Hi Roger

Many thanks for your reply and kind words.
Looking through my files, I find that the ME article has a file size of 12.1Mb.
I also have a video taken in the early test and setup days, which shows the crane working, unfortunately in its unpainted state. this file size is 2Gb. I'm not sure how to post files of this size on this site.
Maybe when the better weather comes I can create a new video, which will show the model to its best advantage.

Hello Ken,

That is an impressive and remarkable model you have created, all the more for it being fully working.

Did you use an actual hydraulic system for the motions (with all its complications) or did you find ways around this ?

You could post a link to a Cloud drive like Google Drive or Onedrive to enable us to see the larger files you have of it working. I'm sure that would be well-received.

Many thanks for kind comments on the model.
No, working hydraulics was for me a step too far.
The hydraulic actions are carried out by motor driven leadscrews, ie, the raise/lower of the jib and the extension/retraction of the jib, each assigned to a separate radio channel.

Re the videos, it’s probably best if I create a new video to show the operation of the crane and add it to the BSME website.
