Although these are actually of a Nyasaland Rlys 45 ton crane on 3'6" gauge I would expect many of the detail drawings to be typical. To print them involves the cost of an A2 print - say £6. I have today just registered with the forum in the hope that someone can help with a General Arrangment drawing for a Cowan Sheldon 75t breakdown crane. I am a retired project engineer who now spends his time making model railway locos & equipment in 10mm scale. My latest completed project is a Class 47 diesel electric loco, powered by a model aircraft engine, driving a generator to provide power to 6 motors as per full size. This can be seen on proving trials, albeit unpainted, in the video section of our model club website http://www.birminghamsme.com The particular model of crane that I am interested in is the one of diesel hydraulic models in the range ADRC 96710-15 manufactured in 1977, which I believe are currently owned by Network Rail and it would be my intention to make it a fully working model by radio control. This would give the Class 47 something to pull, with perhaps the ultimate aim to complete a typical breakdown train. The association Secretary David Withers has recommended that I make this request in the hope that someone out there can help. He tells me that the nearest actual crane to me is at Bescot West Midlands and I wonder whether it is possible to gain access, for taking photographs and measurements etc. Any help would be much appreciated Best regards - Ken Toone |

Ken, Bescot is a DB Schenker depot, whose staff crew the Breakdown Train. Whilst Network Rail actually own the hardware, your first port of call to arrange an official visit is here - http://www.rail.dbschenker.co.uk/press/contact.htm They will then put you in contact with the local staff where appropriate. |

Clark Chapman retained drawings of post 1960s cranes and there is little or nothing in Cumbria Records ( CASCAT ). A request to CC Gateshead might produce a useful respose? I have contacted a couple of recent BR retirees who may have something more than the BR diagram. |

Many thanks Chris & Rob for the information. I have e-mailed both DB Schenker & Clark Chapman and await their response. Have also had a reply from Cumbria Records, as you say, they have nothing re the type I am considering, but do have a GA drawing of the 1963 Diesel version (their record card No 20918) Regards Ken. |

Its been a bit quiet for the last few months, as my requests to both DB Schenker and Clarke Chapman fell on deaf ears. You will recall that I am interested in constructing a Gauge 1 (10mm Scale) working model of a 1977 75t crane in the series ADRC96710-15, Order Nos 31145-50 My interest in the project has recently been reawakened by the publishing of Vol 2 of Peter Tatlow's book, in which there is a wealth of information and a good general arrangement drawing of my chosen subject. I think perhaps I now have sufficient information to make a start, but there are still many details missing which really can only be answered by viewing the actual crane. I understand that there are still 4 left in various parts of the country, so is there any way in which I can get to see one of these cranes? to take photographs etc. I am located in the West Midlands, so obviously Bescot would be good place to start, although I have recently been told that this one is due to move soon. Grateful thanks must go to the members who have responded to my previous requests and I look forward completing my research. Many thanks. |
