Post subject:  45t bogie cranes 107 & 154

Ref. to the two 45t bogie cranes of the LNER: 107 was at Doncaster until 75t crane arrived some time in 1966 then disappeared until it arrrived at Healey Mills about Nov. 1968. Where was it between those dates?

154, the other crane, was at Gateshead till mid 1964 (was it stored?) when it went to Tweedmouth on 7/5/1964. It was then reported to have gone to Darlington on 1/10/1965, however I have some letters that are B.R. internal letters from the Locoshed master at Darlington to depot master at Wakefield. One says "I have received at this depot on the 10th of May (1966) two wagon loads of tool van equipment for crane 154 (ex. Tweedmouth) and dispatched to you on the 11th". The Wakefield copy of the letter is stamped with Wakefield depot stamp dated the 13th, the day they recieved the equipment, so having read that it seems possible that 154 went to Wakefield direct from Tweedmouth in May 1966 and not to Darlington (Tweedmouth closed in June 1966) as the contents of the two wagons contained lifting ropes, chains & brackets, also all the spares for the crane, firebars, springs, bearings and pads and joints for the boiler etc.

As regards 154 withdrawal, I have a Boiler Inspectors certificate dated 21/10/1967 passing the boiler. It also stated that the boiler was new in 2/1954 and hydraulic tested in 2/9/1963, could it have failed its B.I. in 1968 causing its withdrawal or even maybe it had a hydraulic test and failed that, being 5 years since the last one.
