Regarding DS1580 at Mid-Hants Railway, shown in the above link.

Notice trimming boxes on top of the main carriage and relieving bogie
axleboxes. Were these included in the build, or perhaps a subsequent addition?

The extra-length side ladders and steps are of interest also, are these as built?

These and the hydraulic operation of the relieving bogies are interesting features,
worthy of interest, and expect they are handy in operation of the crane.

I believe that 1580 is essentially as-built. It was of course the last 45-tonner built for the mainline British railways and the only one to incorporate the features introduced into the military cranes built post 1939.

There is no doubt that the ladders help, and the hydraulic loading system for the RBs was undoubtedly the most satisfactory, since it was quick and easy to use, and very, very easy to ensure that the loading was correct.

That's very good to know. Owing to the attitude in the workplace to loose ladders
will certainly go for the extended ladders and keep the other innovations in mind.
