My good friend Robert Forsythe posted this postcard picture on his Facebook Page this morning - can anyone help with its identity - the Match truck appears to be numbered 12 - Could this be Wilson 730/1908?

Alex,

Is there any way you can make the photo available to those of us without facebook accounts? Can't help much at the moment!

(And yes, there are still people around - at least one - without facebook or other 'social networking' access)!

Alex,

I have finally caught up with what I believe to be the image you are asking about (very difficult when you don't have a facebook account)!

There is no doubt at all that this is GWR 12, the 1908 12-ton crane built by John H Wilson & Co (w/n 730) for the GWR. This crane spent its working life allocated to "G" Shop at Swindon, and I have no doubt that that is where the photo was taken.

The crane is reported to have last been seen c. 1960 after which it disappeared and is presumed to have been broken up.

Roger
