Looking at the On Track Plant site this morning I spotted Grafton 80117 on the North Norfolk Railway
http://www.ontrackplant.com/otp/80117
I also noticed that we have no photos in the Gallery of Graftons and wondered if any Graftons were used on breakdown work, maybe 80117 was?

Hello Mick.

There is a brief discussion about this crane at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=87&p=326#p326. I've come across no indication, in Brownlie's book or elsewhere, of Graftons being used for breakdown work.

I have never seen any Grafton suggested as a breakdown crane nor noted with a capacity above 10 tons capacity; neither for Britain nor for export.
They always were builders of standardised small machines.

Thank you for that chaps.
That has put that one to bed then.

I have some photos of other cranes, maybe you can cast an eye over

No date for DRT 81144 but taken around 1991/2

Again no date for unidentified crane at Toton but taken around 1990/1, I suspect this one is too small for breakdown work as well.

DRT 81144 is a Taylor Hubbard 10.16 tonne (10 ton) diesel mechanical Civil Engineer's crane. The crane at Toton looks even smaller, so definitely not breakdown cranes.
