An untitled photo has appeared on the NRM website.
Any ideas on details?

This is actually a very interesting photo and I am grateful to you for pointing it out!

The crane is Midland Railway No 27, a Cowans Sheldon 15-ton standard Mk 1 curved jib crane, Works Number 1856 of 1893, built without travelling gear. It was allocated from new to Derby and I have little doubt that that is where the photo was taken. The interesting thing about this crane however is that it was transferred to the WD in 1914 and never returned, its subsequent fate being uncertain. It is possible that it was one of two WD-surplus cranes offered for auction in 1919 at Richborough, Kent, but no records have yet been discovered to confirm this or shed light on its subsequent fate.

There is another notable photo of 27 on page 61 of Peter's recent book.
