Post subject:  Cramlington derailment

Recently I won these pics on ebay and thought of sharing them here, the owner didn't know anything about them but I recognised various bits of infrastructure so I questioned a couple of mates and they were of the same opinion as me. The pics show I think Gateshead and Tweedmouth cranes in attendance at the Cramlington derailment during the general strike together with a Gateshead allocated LNER Built A5 class 4-6-2T. Further comments would be gratefully received.

Definitely Cramlington 1926. A1 2565 Merry Hampton. See also https://www.flickr.com/photos/36891793@N08/8643654650/. I presume the A5 was one of the breakdown train locos.

It was the bottom pic that first got my attention then I traced the locos History and it was at Gateshead at the right time so I checked with a couple of mates and bingo put a bid in. Incidentally the loco Merry Hampton was involved in a crash a few miles further north at Goswick in 1947 and the same two cranes attended. The Tweedmouth one was pulled by a WD with Belgian style smoke box numbering 77 xxx the last three numbers are unclear.
