Post subject:  Allocation maps

Last year I was at a Railwayana auction Cundalls at Malton.
Amongst the lots on offer was a series of plans detailing the allocation of Brakedown equipment in various areas.
I was able to acquire 1 of the 3 this one detailing the Wellingborough area.
From Harringworth in the North to Harpenden in the South
and from Northampton to St Ives in the east.
Amongst the details on the plan it states
Rugby - 50 ton crane
Kentish Town - 36 ton crane
Wellingborough - 15 ton crane

Also detailing any restrictions to passage of a crane such as speed etc.

Does anybody else have any of these plans?
I get the impression that this one was actually part of a large album or similar and has been split apart at some point.
It is in poor condition and requires careful handling.

Bryan,

That's a most interesting plan, and I recall offering to try to produce a facsimile of it for you with the missing bits included. This has been (and has to be) put aside due to time constraints, but one day.....

I also recall being quite excited to learn that the plan included references to the Kentish Town 36-ton crane, only to be brought down to earth when I discovered that this was not the 1931-built 36/40-ton crane I'm involved with (ADRR95207) which was at Kentish Town until 1939, but its replacement 1917-built Cowans Sheldon crane RS1008/36.

Your photo of the plan isn't very legible on screen but perhaps you'd be kind enough to offer it as an email attachment in higher resolution to any BDCA member wanting to study it?

I have a similar map but it is not in the form of a book, I agree that Bryan's seems to come from a book of some sort, the one I have is more of a cloth wall poster which covers an area from Durham to the Scottish border. Would be nice to have a rough idea of it's age. I attach it.

It might be worth posting that question on the LNER forum.
They have a good record of tracking dates down.

Regions are mentioned; so post 1948.
Seahouses branch still shown so possibly between 1948 and 1951.

Bryan/Chris,
Thanks for your information 1948 - 1951 sounds right from Chris's post and probably the earlier date would be closer to the date as the Seahouses branch was closed in 1951 so the map would have been out of date in 1951. I have uploaded a better quality image of the map now.
