Hi All

On a resent visit to Cuba I managed to snap some of their breakdown cranes.
The first was a steam crane preserved in the Cristina station railway museum, Havana, built by Industrial Works of Bay City Michigan USA No 2826 of 1920 and with 75ton on the hook, part of the builders plate was broken off so could not get full details (Photos 1, 2 & 3).

The second was in the yard below Havana central station, No 75010 unidentified builder, Diesel but looked like a steam conversion, 75ton on the hook Auxilio Mayor (Mayor Relief) on the jib and Auxilio No 1 Habana (Relief No 1 Havana) on the engine bay.
The jib runner had Plancha Madrina (Iron Godmother) on the side and the rear wagon had Plancha de Cables (Iron Wire) on the side, looks like it may still be in operation, unable to fully identify as passing on a train (Photos 4 & 5).

The third I was informed was Russian with 80 on the jib maybe tons, and 8190 B on the runner, I was again passing on a train so had no chance to stop and investigate, but was also told that this was one of the Breakdown cranes used today (Photos 6 & 7).

Builders details are as I understand ( I looked again at Rob Dickinsons site webpage - http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/cra ... 1.htm#Cuba - and have noted to him the works number is in error - please if you are willing would you send him copies of your pics for use on that page )

75010 has been stabled here since ca. 2004.
It is believed to be Industrial Brownhoist 11886 of 1948 and may have been ex USATC, a MRS type steam wrecker.
It was Matanzas Auxilio no.2 in 1996.

The third crane is an EDK500 from Kirow, Leipzig, DDR. At least two of these have been reported in Cuba. Can you advise location please?. Is a running number 301 evident?

The FCC also imported a Cowans Sheldon diesel BDC in 1965 - last seen active in Camaguey in 2005.

I have sent you an Email Chris regarding photos for Rob Dickinsons.
The third crane EDK500 is at Santa Clara,and another was working at Satiago De Cuba but the only shot I got of it was with a loco in the way as you can see.

A recent article on rail cranes in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic ( Draha 12/2011 ) was more comprehensive than first thought.

The author had had access to S.M.Kirows production for the 1960s, 70s and 80s ( production ceased in 1989/90 ) with detail of EDK diesel powered types exported to specific countries.

The information for Cuba notes
EDK 300 60t 1no. in 1969. Plate jibbed.
EDK 500 80t 2no. in 1980. Lattice jibbed
EDK 1000 125t 1no. in 1981. Lattice jibbed
