Guys,

What do you make of this http://www.panoramio.com/photo/51051582? Looks to me like a Cowans Sheldon product...

No doubt about that, and a Stanier tender too. This is the survivor of the pair of LNER cranes requisitioned in '42, one of which is known to have been preserved and was photographed at Tehran in 2005. Alas I cannot recall which of the pair it is, but Chris will be along in a moment with a positive id.

Not sure about the Stanier tender, there was a WD 2-10-0 with the crane, but clearly it's not that.

Tehran Station

951515 or 941600 LNER to WD SG St 45T 8W+RB CS 6874-5/1939 to WD 16/01/1942, oil fired, air braked converted by LNER for MoS by 28/02/1942, to Persia by 5/42, as WD 210-211
One of the above pair stored oou 10/2005, numbered 102.

( 'Found' by a German group in about 2005 )

The Stanier tender would have been off one of the WD 8Fs, the last of which was believed scrapped in the late 1970s.

The 2-10-2 is a Vulcan Foundry product. It survived as a stationary boiler.

The crane and loco, and a couple of coaches, now appear to be located at a place googlemaps calls the Iran Railway Museum - a nascent affair I assume.
Searching on it in english and farsi brings forward nothing.
It seems to be a site at the south east end of the passenger trainset yard.
Pictures appear to have been taken from a footbridge over an adjacent dual carriageway.

The CS steam BDC from Tehran was moved in Oct 2015 to the new museum location at Mashad.
Both it and the 2-10-0 were somewhat 'dismantled' with a gas torch in order the low loaders would fit under motorway bridges.

The sister crane has recently been found, out of use, in the works at Tehran by a very lucky group of local enthusiasts who were given a comprehensive tour.
Photographs appear here ( https://www.drehscheibe-online.de/foren ... 30,8517369 this is part two - link to part 1 is at top of the article. ) Location maybe is this 35.652604, 51.403492
The plate appears to confirm it as CS 6874.
It had been converted to diesel power.
Note it is running without relieving bogies; and is fitted with buffers.
