Anybody know an answer?

In the book "Railway Breakdown Cranes volume 2" by Peter Tatlow, there is a throwaway reference that these cranes are capable of having a fly jib rigged on the end of the main jib to extend their reach. Is this really the case and, if so, are there any photos around of one in use? Is that why the auxiliary winch (as seen here) is provided?

Reference to fly jibs is based on PJ Robinson, SM Baker & J Hind's paper to IMechE, 1979, p 434, final paragraph.

Thanks for the reply Peter.
Do you know if there are any photos of this fly jib in use?
I have seen the ones of the Steam Crane one in the book.

The actual text given in the Robinson/Hind/Baker paper may be of interest:

"Two add-on fly jibs have also been provided to cover the six machines, these being available for special lifts where a large height of lift is required."

There's no mention of using a winch in conjunction with a fly jib.

I think there is little doubt that the auxiliary hoist would have been an option with any Fly which was added. It was of course also intended for light lifts and load balancing in standard rig!

I remember seeing in some comments on some cranes that an additional winch was fitted for dragging loads nearer before an actual lift took place.
Would this additional winch be something similar on a modern crane?
Totally separate purpose from the Fly jib.
