I would be pleased to have a conversation with anyone who can say anything about the Cowans Sheldon cranes, destined for Russia, that didn’t get sent there, and were sold as surplus in the 1920s.
The order was for four number twenty ton capacity bogie cranes and the works numbers were 4110-4113.
Two went to the Great Southern Railway; a third later went to Ireland; and I strongly suspect from examination of WTT Appendices that the fourth also did. Probable running numbers included 131A, 94A, and 2M, the latter possibly a MGWR numbering.
One, with a certain negative distinction, and whilst based at Cork, suffered a boiler explosion in July 1960.
There are a few published photographs of them; and a couple of postcards with me ( including one after that certain incident ).
One survives; plinthed at Mallow, and has recently been cosmetically restored.

Is it an optical illusion or is there a serious kink at the lower end of the jib in the second photo?
